On this episode, I speak with convicted multiple murderer Paul Merhige.

Paul Michael Merhige is a Florida multiple murderer responsible for a deadly shooting that took place on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2009, at a family gathering in Jupiter, Florida. During the celebration, Merhige left the residence, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, and returned, opening fire on his relatives. Four family members were killed, including a six-year-old child, while two other relatives were wounded. Investigators discovered that Merhige had a history of hostility and violent behavior toward members of his family, with tensions reportedly extending back several years. The shooting appeared to be a planned attack rather than the result of an argument or sudden confrontation.

Following the shootings, Merhige fled the scene, prompting a nationwide search and a manhunt that lasted more than five weeks. He was eventually captured on January 2, 2010, in the Florida Keys. Prosecutors initially pursued the death penalty, but in October 2011, Merhige pleaded guilty to the four murders in exchange for a sentence of seven consecutive life sentences, avoiding execution. The judge made it clear that Merhige would never be released from prison, effectively ensuring that he would spend the remainder of his life incarcerated.
